the comedy of manners

Christmas is in the air.... The gang of girls, the chosen choir, are eager to try on their party clothes and rehearsing the carols by playing them from the stereo, whilst the others are busy with their own life whether in their rooms, or outside or abroad.
DSC_0002_xmashome.jpg
... when mom announces that a piece of drama, music of that night ... will require nomination from them to play the roles... Mom hasn't quite decided who's who... Everybody become nervous and quite anxious to get a major role...
DSC_0001_xmashome.jpg
Cherie, sister of Beatrice d'Este Sforza, Italian blythe, whose ancestors are the courtly inventors of the game of tarot, thinks that she deserves the role of Magdalene, the virgin mother embrassing the cradle of baby Jesus, or the soprano ot the christmas carols
DSC_0004_xmashome.jpg
The newly arrived member of family, Diva, whose vocation is a rock star, naturally shares the thought of Cherie. She must be confined the singing role... She is dressed in Russian, Kremlin nobility style
DSC_0017_xmashome.jpg
Anais, the 'nose' who comes from the Provence in France , is Mom's favourite girl because of her being francaise...
DSC_0013_xmashome.jpg
Cherie and Diva chat in a corner and almost come into terms of sharing the two major roles...
DSC_0007_xmashome.jpg
Anais is not a jealous girl who has her self righteousness
DSC_0015_xmashome.jpg
The two girls talk about strategies to win mom's favour...
DSC_0006_xmashome.jpgDSC_0009_xmashome.jpg
while Cheshire, overhearing their conspiracy, steps in... who always got authority as she is a kenner...
DSC_0010_xmashome.jpg
She summons Anais to a reunion round the fireplace. "Given my majesty as a kenner, and my musical talents, I can tell you that am nominated the choir leader and the Magdalen role, I'll play both."

open rice at dai pai dong

Eating out tonight at open-air food stall, in Fotan, Shatin

DSC_0005eee_shatin.jpg
Dai Pai Dong, or large-license stall, is regarded by some as part of the collective memory of Hong Kong people. Characterised by untidy atmosphere and with big electric fans, foldable ltables and chairs, as well as the great variety, low prices and wok hei (grest stir fry in the wok) of the dishes
DSC_0006_shatin.jpg
Chicken congee, shells in hot spicy sauce and deep fried pigeaons are the must in every table in this stall. We ate tonight "ehite rice" fish omelette too

bridge viewing

(: the summer vacatioons :)

::Today's entry lifts the curtains of the summer vacations series...::
Béatrice and Chérie (a sbl and a bl blythe), have been getting on very well together since they arrive to the family... perhaps because of their surprising ressemblance and the blushing rosy fairness!
They are spending the summer vacations together.... first by exploring the town. A pilgrimage to the landmark bridge

They are no swimmer (afterall they are blythes, and must hate the waters on the face!)
:bridgebeach1.gif
Also alarmed by the water quality, they play sand and fishing. They have taken petite Béatrice along
bridgebeach.gif
it's such a hot and overcast day... the watermelon cools off the heat
bridgebeach2.gif
a beach amidst the urban bridgescape... though certainly not an ideal bathing venue, it is one of the best spots to view the bridge... and we should come back for the nightscape
bridgebeach4.gif
Good friends could begin a common hobby together... should we do canoeing?
bridgebeach3.gif

how cosseting the two little girls are... they dorn on a anna sui barbie embroidered blouse and sugarmag hot pants (Béatrice) and a stylish sugarmag pink striped top and 100% cotton summer pants (Chérie).Petite Béatrice wears a red pokka dotted sugarmag dress. They have their indispensible sun bonnets on

We found our way to drive to here finally but the skyline and the landscape were a bit disappointing today... and surprisingly no sunset at the expected hour!

esprit cacharel

i know that this shirt, worn by Beatrice, would be among my favourite... emblematic of chemise Cacharel, one of the earliest French prêt-à-porter fashion house, founded in provençal city of Nime instead of Paris, famous for its shirts with country floral pattern in watercolour hues (Liberty prints) .. that evolved the Liberty of London cotton fabric, thus formed the early notion of ready-to-wear.

I'd love to dig out my several Cacharel bought in Paris. The present designs by Clements & Ribeiro are still adorable (available in HK - yeah of coz everything is available to shop here!- in cacharel boutiques in several locations in TST & CWB). And of course the lingeries, especially in Liberty prints!

the floral clock striked 1:30pm... where were we??
repulsebay2.gif
A little escapade from the foggy central, béatrice went to the repulse bay.
The recognised towers of repulse bay apartments contrast, yet blend in well with the old hotel, that of 1920's Hong Kong grandeur.
repulsebay1.gif
Above the sandy beaches stands the Verandah restaurant, a picturesque example of the early 20th-Century colonial architecture, decorated with wavy palms
repulsebay4.gif
The somewhat Parisian surrealist architecture, that of metro sortie, shopping arcades described by Andre Bréton... the unpretentious fountain, verdant lawn and the white marquees are Beatrice's favourite impressions of the repulse bay's verandah, a replica but somehow different from the Peninsula's Verandah grandeur overlooking the Victoria Harbour.

hanami

hanami (cherry blossom viewing) has become a media spotted activity this fortnight... Thought to be inexisting in HK, some dozen boughs of cherry blossoms have been blooming every spring in cheungchau since when the kenners were one year old.

revolving cityview

Today we challenged the weather...
Just for the view Beatrice and i tried the R66. Located at 62F of hopewell centre in wanchai, R66 is the only revolving restaurant, after Furama's closure. It takes about one hour and a quarter to revolve 360º . I found it unrivaled to Furama's view, nor from the Peninsula's Felix or office tower, which is open as if 'in the heart of the matter', while wanchai hopewell views the city in laid back and much sombre attire. Night view should be more spectacular, the food is just ok, you cant have the whole cake...

the opened treasury...

To complete the series about Chinese New Year, yesterday, on the 26th day of the first lunar month, Goddess of mercy, Kwan Yam opens her treasury... a last event of the lunar new year month. Thousands of people queued last night to borrow "money" from the goddess, in an annual ritual believed to bring good luck.
Beatrice and I decided to have a look at this ritual, however not daring to go to the jammed Kwanyam temple in Hunghom, instead at Man Po Temple at Hollywood Road during our resumed lunch hour adventure...

beatrice is an unexpected girl. She was born 'with a silver spoon'... (thanks to blythehautecouture for letting it).
